For anyone who is not already familiar, can you tell us a little bit about your background? Where you're from, where you live now (if different) and why you started CAVO Candles

Our names are Femi and Naomi, we are sisters and the co-founders of CAVO, based in San Francisco. We have always had a passion for the environment, candles, art, and design. We created CAVO because we wanted to create eco-friendly candles that catered to our fun, eclectic, style.


You've been featured in some pretty notable publications. Has that come about organically? Or maybe you're a super dope marketing/pr maven as well? 

Thank you! Yes, all of our features have come about organically. It's so exciting to see. We are seriously so thankful and appreciate every mention!


Last year and in particular after the killing of George Floyd, there was a ton of energy around "buying black". Do you sense there's that same energy or has it waned? 

We launched in June 2020 and have felt so much support with all of the initiatives to include Black owned businesses. Fortunately, it's been sustainable for us and our customers have continued to order with us over the months even when it's not been trending. 


We have to talk about your music. Is there an artist, album or maybe just a song that got you through 2020? 

We've both been listening to Giveon's albums heavy. He's been on the "After A Good Cry" playlist.

 

It's a perfectly sunny day. You're driving with all your windows down or cycling, what's the song you turn all the way up and sing along as loud as you can? 

Definitely Binz by Solange playing obnoxiously loud.  


What does self-care mean to you? What are some of your self-care routines? 

Depending on the day, self-care can mean different things. Some days self-care means de-cluttering, doing a mental health check in with ourselves, or even disconnecting from social media and work. Aromatherapy has always been incorporated in our routines and that's where we developed our interest in making candles. 


Final question. You can wave a magic wand and be granted one wish 5 years into the future for CAVO. What is that wish? What is your biggest hope/dream for the brand in the not so distant future? 

In five years we definitely see ourselves having more scents and overtime reaching more people. It's been really rewarding to see customers resonate with our products and our biggest wish is for that to just continue. As far as products, y'all will just have to wait and see.
